Wikipedia - Slovak Extraliga

The Slovak Extraliga, known as the Tipos Extraliga since the 2020–21 season for sponsorship reasons, is the highest-level ice hockey league in Slovakia. From 2018–19 to 2020–21, the league included one or two teams from Hungary.

Teams from the Extraliga can participate in the IIHF's annual Champions Hockey League (CHL). Participation is based on the strength of the various leagues in Europe (excluding the KHL). In the 2022–23 CHL season, the Extraliga was ranked the No. 10 league in Europe, so the champion of the previous season competed in the CHL.

The 1993–94 season was the first of the Slovak Extraliga following the peaceful dissolution of Czechoslovakia midway through the 1992–93 Czechoslovak Extraliga season – which all Slovak and Czech teams played to completion.

The Slovakia Extraliga is the premier ice hockey league in Slovakia, showcasing the country's top talent and thrilling competition. Established in 1993, the league has grown in stature and popularity, attracting both local and international players. Comprising several teams from across Slovakia, the Extraliga features a regular season followed by intense playoff rounds, culminating in the championship series to determine the league champion.

Fans can expect high-paced action, skillful play, and passionate rivalries as teams battle for supremacy on the ice. The league serves as a vital platform for developing young talent, with many players going on to represent Slovakia in international competitions, including the IIHF World Championships and the Olympics.

The Slovakia Extraliga not only highlights the rich hockey culture in Slovakia but also fosters community spirit, drawing enthusiastic crowds to arenas across the nation. With its blend of tradition, excitement, and sportsmanship, the Extraliga remains a cornerstone of Slovak sports and a must-watch for ice hockey enthusiasts.
